Release Event for the CD – Nacchere Toscane

“FROM MAREMMA (TUSCANY) TO TENNESSEE or FROM WOODEN CASTANETS TO BONE CASTANETS”
Short documentary on the use and tradition of castanets (gnacchere) in Tuscany and in the United States (here called “bones”).

The document was prepared on the occasion of the presentation in Grosseto of the CD “Nacchere toscane” (PEGASUS, 2011). The first part is dedicated to two masters of the gnacchere Carlino Penni and Ido Corti (from Maremma area) as well as to the storyteller Eugenio Bargagli (“Eugegnino”).

The second sees the tradition of the bones in the USA built both in bone and in wood and showing the differenence from the Tuscan ones, with a performance by Henry Nobles and Taj Mahal. The activity of the Rhythm Bones Society (www.rhythmbones.org) is also illustrated; some of its members played boners on Tuscan folk music.

During the presentation in Grosseto, some Tuscan castanets players (Filippo Marranci, Marco Vergari, Corrado Barontini) played their instruments using the traditional US tunes.
