Rowan Corbett Mentions Michael Ballard

Rowan mentioned me in passing during our Virtual Bones Fest. I was surprised. The funny thing about it to me is that that day was my only visit to the Colorado Renaissance Festival.

In the Renaissance Faire circuit, the Colorado event was well known, but I didn’t know any people who worked there. I did find a few familiar faces and a whole lot of new ones. I even got interviewed by a local newspaper because I was visibly different from other costumed participants. My garb was Irish and that Faire did not have Irish or Scottish groups back then. Only English folks. I got a small paragraph in the newspaper article. It must have been a slow news day.

Over the course of the day, I played while I walked, I played with individuals and small groups, I spent time teaching anyone who expressed curiosity. I don’t actually remember encountering Rowan so I was quite surprised when he credited me with inspiring him to do more musically with his rhythm bones.

Of the thousands of people who I’ve spent some time with at Faires and Festivals over the years, Rowan is one of the very few that I’ve met up with again, years later, and found that he took what I offered and made something much more with it. I was thrilled to find out that I had made an early impact on someone who has gone on to become such a skilled player.
