Bones Fest IX was a lot like Bones Fext IV also hosted by the Wixsons. The venue was again the Moutain Opry building and the Wixson's home. Many of the same people attended, plus some exciting new people. Kenny Wolin's xylophone and Don DeCamp's banjo were great additions. A local restaurant cooked an Italian Dinner at the house. After two weeks of rain, the sun came out on Thursday, and early arrivers had a great night jam outside with the katydids providing the backup music.
The workshops were really good; Tim Reilly, real bone making and scrimshaw, Yirdy Machar, four bones in each hand, Kenny Wolin, advanced playing, and Jonathan Danforth, kids. The Saturday performances were the best ever as we all get better each year. Ev Cowett was presented with a mohogany box that contained a beatiful pair of scrimshawed bones made by Tim Reilly that read Everett Cowett, Executive Director, RBS, 1999-2004 on one and May Your Bones Be With You on the other.
